TIS History

In 2012, the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies (TIS) was officially established at ATU with three Departments: Qur'an and Hadith, Islamic Studies, and Philosophy. The newly established Faculty was located on the same campus as the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages, in Sa'adatabad.

After seven years, in September 2019, under the Deanship of Dr Abbas Ashrafi, the Faculty was moved to ATU's Central Campus in Dehkade-ye Olampik.
So far, the Faculty has been working with four academic departments, namely the departments of Qur'an and Hadith Studies, Islamic Studies, Jurisprudence and Fundamentals of Islamic Law, and Islamic Philosophy and Kalam. More recently, a new Research Department, named the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Holy Qur'an has also been launched and plans to contribute to the research activities of the Faculty.
